Stacey and I planned a fabulous Elmo themed birthday party for Connor and Maddy complete with Elmo shirts (thanks to Evie) invitations, cupcakes, balloons and plates. I have to say we did a pretty darn good job, at least with the planning and set up. There was an unfortunate turn of events for us right as we were about to get the party started! As Connor and Maddy were running down the walkway to their party decked out in their sunglasses, Elmo shirts, flip flops and tutu (no Connor didn't have on a tutu) Connor fell down. The great thing was he got right back up and was fine and started running at full speed again. Unfortunately the second fall didn't go as well as the first...he tripped and fell and he landed on his face. Thankfully the sunglasses padded his fall otherwise I think he would have had a ton of splinters in his face. He was bleeding and Matt and Mimi took him back to Stacey's to clean him up and assess the damage. Most of you know Connor is a pretty tough kid and it takes something big to slow him down! Well this was it! When they came back to the party Connor had two matching cuts above his eyes and one looked pretty deep.

With much debate, after all it was set to be a pretty good party complete with a keg and Elmo cupcakes, we decided to take him to the Emergency Room and have him checked out. We were in the ER about 2 hours and left with 3 stitches in one cut and a liquid stitches in the other. Thank goodness Matt was with me because there is no way I could have held Connor down while they fixed him up. It was painful just hearing him scream and calling for Dadda. We headed back to the party just in time to open presents...or so we thought.
Connor took a nap while Matt and I enjoyed the food and drink and just as we were about to head out and put Connor to bed he woke up and saw Maddy's new Cozy Coupe car. He was running around super excited like nothing had happened. It just so happens that Maddy gave Connor a matching Cozy Coupe for his birthday and so we went and got it and they were riding around together. I must say it was the perfect ending to a not so perfect day.

All is going well with the stitches. The doctor said everything is healing nicely and we will get them out later this week. He hasn't been too bothered by his injuries at all. He catches a glimpse of himself in the mirror and smiles and points and says "boo boo" in a very proud tone! That kid is a typical boy and I am quite amazed that it took him two years to receive his first set of stitches. Be sure to check out Maddy's CSMTY blog for more pictures of the event.
